Abstract

The new millennium has brought about many good things in our lives such as rapid advancements in telecommunication and information technology, but which has also introduced new challenges of terrorism, natural disasters and high rate of crime, affecting & destroying large amount of people. Hence to tackle such adversities in today’s scenario, forensics in relation to public health has gained a significant importance such as identification of human beings & solving criminal cases. Dental forensics being an integral part of forensics in to, it is also extremely helpful in identification of human beings and solving cases by analysis of the remains of teeth, lip prints, bite marks etc. Hence, public health professionals may play a major role in identification of those individuals who cannot be identified. Moreover, the likelihood of future disasters due to terrorism, earthquakes and other causes require the public health profession in India to prepare for an expanded role that would be in bioterrorism response, crime or in civil proceedings.
