PHARMACOGNOSTIC, PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDIES AND ANTIANXIETY ACTIVITY OF URARIA PICTA LEAVES

Abstract

Uraria picta is one of the important constitutents among the ten herb formulation called Dashmula. Roots
are aphrodisiac in nature. They are mainly used for fracture healing properties. Its decoction is useful in
cough, chills and fevers. Main contents of herbal plant Uraria picta is flavonoid , steroid are known to exhibit
a range of biological activities like antiinflammatory, antianxiety ,anti depressant properties due to their
free radical scavenging ability. First of all we have to do phytochemical screening of uraria picta of for
extract (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol, water) then take Healthy albino rats (180-240 g) divided
into five groups each containing five rats. Group 1 was taken as a normal, group 2 treated with 2.5 g/kg
diazepam ( which is used as standard drug) and group 3 have further three group I,group II and group III(
group of ethanol extract of Uraria picta) in dose 200 mg/kg, 400mg/kg. And 600 mg/kg and animal model is
used elevated plus maze model.
