SYNERGISTIC EFFECT OF NATURAL DIETARY ANTIOXIDANT AND CISPLATIN IN LUNG CANCER TREATMENT
Keywords:
β carotene, benzo (a) pyrene, reduced glutathione, Gama glutamyl transferaseAbstract
Cisplatin is a member of the group of chemotherapy drugs known as heavy metal alkylating-like agents. It is
approved by food and drug administration (F.D.A.) to treatment of metastatic testicular and metastatic ovarian
cancer. It is also used for treatment later-stage , lung cancer, urine bladder cancer and other types cancer including
head and neck cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, skin cancer prostate cancer, lymphoma cancer,
neuroblastoma, sarcoma, cervical, myeloma, mesothelima and osteosarcoma. The experiment design to evaluate the
synergistic effect of Natural dietary antioxidant and cisplatin in benzo (a) pyrene (B.P.) induced lung cancer in wistar
rats. The experimental animal divided in four groups (n=6) like group 1 control (vehicle, corn oil), group II negative
control benzo (a) pyrene (50mg/kg p.o.) group III treated with cisplatin and group IV treated with cisplatin and
dietary antioxidant. The result was obtained that group II decrease the antioxidant enzyme in lung tissue like reduced
glutathione, Superoxide dismutase, Catalase, glutathione peroxidase, increase of lipid peroxidation, LDH, and Gama
glutamyl transferase. Its were recovered more significantly in group IV than group III. Therefore the present study
data was concluded that natural dietary antioxidant and cisplatin were produced synergistic effect in lung cancer
treatment
